The Long Night of Images 2025: Motavali Expanded [4]

Hosted by Villa Kuriosum, in collaboration with Room for Doubt [Berlin] and Parking Video Library.
Exhibition, Performances, Site-Specific Installations, and More
September 5–6, 2025
What role do photographs play in our society today? In an era of widespread image consumption and AI-generated alterations, how do we engage with images? What lies ahead for photography as a medium? And does the act of capturing a photo, once seen as a way to "catch memories," still carry any significance?

Over two days, Motavalli Expanded [4] will focus on the life of images and photographs, both on and off stage. The program will include an exhibition, audiovisual performances, text readings, and photographic installations at the Villa Kuriosum in Berlin.

Motavalli, from a Persian/Arabic word meaning "consecutive," is a festival for expanded performance, moving images, and various other art forms. Established in Tehran in February 2020, the festival is now in its fourth edition and will take place for the second time in Berlin-Lichtenberg. By incorporating collections from the Parking Video Library and the networks of Room for Doubt and Villa Kuriosum, Motavalli serves as a dynamic gathering place for artists, performers, musicians, and community members, promoting collaboration and artistic exchange.
