Shadowless is a performance-based research project by Elaheh Nouri that explores experiences of migration, grief, and the female body. Rooted in community theatre practices inspired by Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed, the work transforms personal stories of young Iranian and Afghan girls into collective acts of expression.

Elaheh Nouri (b. 1993, Iran) is a writer and youth theatre director whose work brings together storytelling, performance, and community. Trained in theatre directing (M.A.), she creates stories that can be read, performed, or listened to—from short fiction and plays to audio and site-specific works. Her practice grows from workshops with children, teenagers, and marginalized groups, where writing becomes a shared act of imagination and resistance. Inspired by Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed, Elaheh turns games and dialogue into scenes and collective stories.
She has written and directed pieces such as A Brief History of Almost Everything and The Gaya, and recently created an audio walk in Tehran’s Laleh Park exploring memory and the environment. Her first short story collection, Garotman (2021), reflects her love for minimalism and the strange. Her new piece, Shadowless, is a work in progress that explores the fragility and resilience of a group of young Iranian and Afghan girls.

Motavali Lab is an experimental format from the Motavali Festival, which seeks to create space for try-out presentations and open studios for performance, research, and image-based storytelling.
